Background (Before 2003)
Justin Timberlake was born in Memphis, Tennessee, to a Baptist church choir director father and an actress and film producer mother. Justin appeared on the television show Star Search at the age of 11, performing country songs as “Justin Randall”.
From 1993 to 1995, Justin was a Mouseketeer on The All-New Mickey Mouse Club, where his castmates included Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, JC Chasez, Ryan Gosling and Keri Russell, who all went on to find further fame in the entertainment industry.
In 1995, Justin recruited Chasez to join an all-male singing group that eventually became the iconic boyband *NSYNC. The group released its self-titled debut in 1998 and quickly followed that up the same year with the festive album Home for Christmas.
In 2000, they released No Strings Attached, which became one of the fastest-selling albums in history, selling more than 14 million copies and featured a string of hits, including the chart-topping singles “Bye Bye Bye” and “It’s Gonna Be Me.” *NSYNC also performed at the Oscars in 2000, the Super Bowl XXXV halftime show in 2001 and the 2002 Winter Olympics. After the release of the group’s last album, Celebrity, and the completion of the Celebrity Tour, the group went into hiatus in 2002.
Justin then went on to have a successful solo career, and his debut album Justified debuted at No.2 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 439,000 copies. It sold over three million copies in the US and more than ten million copies worldwide, thanks to the album’s multiple hit songs including ‘Cry Me a River’, ‘Like I Love You’, ‘Rock Your Body’, and ‘Señorita’.
In 2003, Justin was a guest performer on the Black-Eyed Peas’ smash hit single “Where Is the Love?” This smash-hit song went on to win an EMMA Award for the Black Eyed Peas in 2004.
